The team running the Love Smith Team Instagram page may need to reassess their social media strategy.
A Bill Cosby meme referencing the recent killing of Harambe the gorilla at a zoo in Cincinnati was posted to the Virginia realtor team’s Instagram and then promptly deleted. The image of Cosby was captioned “I could have tranquilized that gorilla.” We can only imagine it was deleted following criticism of the offensive joke.
The team’s Instagram page, which has 288 followers, appears to consist only of memes, most of which are unrelated to real estate.
Scott Stratten, president of marketing agency Unmarketing, pointed out the insensitive post on his Twitter and Instagram. “Nothing says ‘funny’ on your real estate Instagram page like a rape joke,” read Stratten’s caption on Instagram.
Realtors do have a bit of a history of running offensive ads. In 2015, a realtor team landed in hot water following this sexist ad.
