Residential and commercial real estate construction is heating up in Dallas according to a recent report by McGraw Hill Construction.
The latest measure of commercial construction in the city shows that activity has almost tripled within the last year. The measure compares the last 12 months of construction activity measured in dollars to the previous twelve month period.
Contracts for future commercial building in the Dallas area totaled almost $1.19 billion in July. Last year, nonresidential construction contracts in the area were estimated at $403 million.
Through the first half of 2013, commercial contracts in Dallas totalled $3.44 billion, up 39 percent from the same time in 2012.
Residential construction is also on the rise in the Dallas area. Contracts were 33 percent higher in July than they were a year earlier.
Through the first seven months of 2013, residential building contracts are surging 26 percent ahead of 2012 numbers.
