A teaser site is out for office-to-residential conversion 100 Van Ness Avenue, with apartments available January 2015.
Located at the corner of Van Ness Avenue and Fell Street, the building was formerly home to the California State Automobile Association. The Emerald Fund tapped Solomon Cordwell Buenz to transform the nondescript 1970s office building into a glossy, blue-glass-wrapped rental with approximately 399 apartments and 112 parking spaces. The project will feature a roof deck with fire pits, hot tub and bocce court.
The building topped out last month, Curbed reported.
The conversion is one of the residential buildings rejuvenating the mid-Market Street area. “Market and Van Ness has the most valuable infrastructure in San Francisco and many of the most important cultural institutions – it is absolutely essential that these things get built,” Oz Erickson, the president of Emerald Fund, told SFGate. “It used to be that you left Civic Center at 5:30 and when you came back at 8 to go to a show, it was a wasteland.”
