Morningside Heights rental 1080 Amsterdam Avenue is on the cusp of opening.
The 20-story pre-war tower just south of Columbia University is the latest redevelopment project by Stonehenge Partners. Steven Kratchman Architect revamped the the 1931 building, preserving the original terrazzo floors in the lobby and hallways.
Pricing starts at $2,700 for a studio, $3,600 for a one-bedroom and $5,895 for a two-bedroom, according to the official site. Select units will have private outdoor space, and the building is topped by a full-floor penthouse with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a formal dining room and wraparound terraces with “views stretching from Columbia University down to FiDi.”
Andres Escobar & Associates designed the interiors. The apartments have hardwood floors, sunken living rooms, stainless steel appliances, Caesarstone countertops and Italian Scavolili cabinets.
Amenities include a 24-hour attended lobby, lounge, gym and bike storage.
Stonehenge teamed up with SL Green Realty Corp. to enter a 99-year ground lease for the 96-unit building, the firms announced in a press release in 2012. The joint venture invested about $13 million in the transaction. Previously, the property had been used by St. Luke’s Hospital Center to house hospital staff. Renovations included upgrades to common corridors and windows, as well as improved elevator, heating and electrical systems.
