According to a recent Pinterest home trends report, searches for artificial fronds and dried-out flora are seeing a huge boost in traffic numbers. Always on the hunt for au courant houseplants or creative ways to display our air-purifying friends, we’ve turned to Pinterest to find out more about the botanical trends starting to take root.
1. Single palm leaf in a vase (up 136% year-over-year)

When placed in a vase filled with fresh water, palm fronds will thrive for about two to four weeks, but faux varieties look just as enticing. Pair monstera, fan palm, or bird of paradise cuttings with a sculptural vase for tropical-minimalist vibe. We’re fond of this faux palm leaf from CB2 and this artificial monstera leaf from IKEA.
2. Pampas grass (up 500% year-over-year)

At first glance, you may mistake pampas grass for an arrangement of ostrich plumes. The ornamental grass has a feathery feel, and comes in creamy white and pastel pink varieties. Already a fixture of Pinterest wedding boards, dried pampas grass is now seeping into home design. Make it the focal point of your tablescape in a vintage glass jug or display it outdoors in tall galvanized buckets for a rustic look.
3. Herbariums (up 345% year-over-year)

Vintage-looking scientific illustrations have been popular for a while now, but herbariums take the trend to the next level. These collections of pressed flowers and plant specimens were traditionally studied by botanists, but they also make great gallery wall additions. Opt to DIY your own herbarium or purchase perfectly-pressed flowers online, like this glass-framed lavender from Etsy.
