Ho-ho-ho-spitality! A new 183-room hotel is coming to Wythe Avenue, a block down from the Wythe Hotel.
The 150,000-square-foot project is replacing a one-story warehouse at 55 Wythe Avenue, between North 12th and North 13th streets. The 250-foot-tall building will be 20 stories, according to the plan exam application filed December 18th. There will be parking for 218 cars, first-floor retail, a bar/lounge banquet hall and offices on Floors 5 to 9.
The hotel rooms start on the 11th floor, and the building will be capped by a rooftop deck and eatery.
The developer, Zelig Weiss, is no stranger to Williamsburg. Along with partner Zalman Glauber, Weiss opened The Condor Hotel at 56 Franklin Avenue in 2010, The New York Daily News reported. The Condor caters to the needs of observant Jews, as well as travelers of all faiths who don’t want to shell out major cash to stay in a Manhattan hotel. Room rates range from about $100 to $265 per night, according to The Condor’s website.
For those not in the know, the much-ballyhooed Wythe Hotel opened in 2012, complete with locally made furniture, custom wallpaper from Flavor Paper, 13-foot-high exposed ceilings and exposed brick, band rooms and a movie theater, Brownstoner reported. The New York Times, which is ON IT, referred to the project as a “grown-up sanctuary on the Williamsburg waterfront” and posed the rhetorical question, “Has Brooklyn finally gotten the hotel it deserves?”
We don’t know, you guys. Do two hotels make a Wythe?
