Renderings: Avoid Obvious
The Chetrit Group is apparently changing up its formula for the conversion of the Cabrini Medical Center in Gramercy.
In July 2013, permits were filed to transform four existing properties on East 19th and East 20th Street into residential buildings. The plans called for more than 250 apartments total — 140 units at the main 16-story building at 209 East 19th Street, 54 units each at 228 East 20th Street and 227 East 19th Street, and eight full-floor residences at a smaller structure at 224 East 20th Street, Curbed reported. Those four plans were disapproved.
Now, fresh permits have been filed for a seven-story, 37-unit structure at 228 East 20th, which had been slated for 30 to 54 apartments (the July 2013 plan exam application presented conflicting information). This building will rise 75 feet, with bike storage, a swimming pool and rooftop recreation space.
The Chetrit Group acquired the Cabrini Medical site in a joint venture with Clipper Equities and Read Property Group. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center was the seller in the $152.7 million deal, CoStar reported.
