A crane has collapsed in Lower Manhattan this morning killing one, seriously injuring at least two others, and breaking multiple gas mains.
Pictures from the scene in Tribeca at 40 Worth Street between West Broadway and Church Street show a collapsed crane stretching across a row of smashed cars.
Authorities were notified of the collapse at approximately 8:25am, according to various reports.
The deceased was in a car pinned beneath the crane, NYC Fire Wire, a social media channel run by off-duty firefighters, reports.
The New York City Fire Department is on the scene.
Further details, such as what construction site the crane was servicing, have not yet been released.
