At the end of the day, nothing beats the feeling of slipping into an expertly made bed — pillows fluffed, sheets in place, duvet laid out. But be honest. Do you actually make your bed every day? We’re not ashamed to say that on occasion we forget and end up sleeping in a messy pile of blankets.
If that’s a problem you’d like to live without, a Montreal-based startup has the perfect solution. It’s designed a product called Smartduvet, and when you integrate it with your existing bedding you’ll be left with a bed that makes itself.

Wondering how it works? The technology is actually surprisingly simple, although there’s a little set up required. Every Smartduvet kit includes an inflatable sheet that’s designed to be placed between a duvet and duvet cover — made of “very thin and lightweight space age material,” the sheet allows for natural air circulation and won’t weigh down the duvet it’s being used with.

Once the inflatable sheet is in place, it’s hooked up to an air blower via a tube. At that point, it’s ready to go. All you have to do is use the Smartduvet app to set a time for your bed to make itself — when the time you’ve chosen rolls around, the sheet will slowly inflate, pushing your duvet back into place. Just don’t forget to set a later time if you like to sleep in on the weekend.

If you think you’d like your own self-making bed, you’ll want to get involved in the Smartduvet Kickstarter campaign. The team behind the product is looking to raise $30,000 by December 27th, and at time of publication was about two-thirds of the way there. Early backers will be able to get a Smartduvet kit for any bed size for $264 — pricey, but then again, can you really put a price on never making your bed again?
