According to Spanish national newspaper, El Pais, a development consisting of two 47 story towers in Benidorm, Spain has been built without an elevator above the 20th floor.
Intempo was originally planned to be 20 stories tall, but the developers decided to increase both towers to 47 stories. Regrettably, extra room for an elevator wasn’t made available.
Believe it or not, this isn’t the first blunder the architects and construction team had made while working on Intempo.
In 2009, the construction company involved went into liquidation and later an elevator fell with 13 people trapped inside. Ambulances weren’t able to get to the site because vehicle access had been removed to save costs.
In 2008, the architects described the building as the future of architecture — “its features of comfort, design, and elegance set a standard for the future of architecture and the city of Benidorm.”
Unsurprisingly, the architects have since resigned from the project.
Although construction is scheduled to complete in December 2013, it is unclear how the issue of the missing elevator will be resolved.
