Nicolas Cage’s former San Francisco mansion can be yours for $11 million

Little known fact outside of Bay Area circles: Nicolas Cage’s real name is Nicolas Coppola, nephew to Francis Ford Coppola, director of The Godfather. So it’s little surprise that he once owned a home in Russian Hill. This gorgeous Gothic Tudor manor is listed for $10.95 million, or $11 million if you’re keen on rounding up.

The Coppolas, with their winery, literary magazine and endless film credits, are notorious for staking their claim on the City by the Bay. Francis Ford Coppola even bought the Columbus Tower, the iconic copper-green Flatiron building now housing the award-winning Zoetrope: All Story, in 1973 for $500,000.

Spanning four floors, 898 Francisco Street boasts six-bedrooms and six-and-a-half baths. It was built in 1914, only eight years after the 1906 earthquake, and the exterior contains unique accents such as stained glass windows, a stone arch and iron gate. And the interior? Much stranger. One dressing room is entirely wood-paneled and features trompe-l’œils, or optical illusions, everywhere.

The entryway displays a grand staircase leading up to the six bedrooms that all have ensuite bathrooms. The library is adorned with an ornate faux-ivoire mantelpiece. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without a wine cellar and a lush backyard with a hidden garden.

Nicolas Cage hasn’t lived in the home since 2008, when it was sold to the current owners for $8.5 million. If you’d like to expand your real estate portfolio to rival that of the actor’s, you could also snatch up the adjacent property for $3.5 million.
