The second phase of Union Village by Minto Communities Canada and Metropia has achieved sold-out success within one week of launching to the public, echoing the response to the project’s phase one launch in early 2020.

The first phase of Union Village received an overwhelming response from homebuyers who appreciated the development’s collection of home designs, lush greenspaces and family-friendly streetscapes. Later in 2020, the development was named the Ontario Home Builders’ Association’s (OHBA) project of the year in the low-rise category.

Diversity is a key component of the 412-acre community, which boasts a wide range of home sizes, layouts and architectural styles. The second phase added a collection of flexible floorplans that cater to the growing multigenerational living trend, along with Net Zero home upgrades designed to reduce emissions by up to 85 percent.

“The reception of Union Village has been so rewarding for us,” said Mike LaPlante, Vice President of Land Development, Minto Communities GTA. “As a developer, we are always seeking to build community, and this thoughtful approach has resonated with purchasers as seen with our phase two sell-out.”

“It was important for us to offer flexible floor plans and open up new possibilities for future residents to live with extended family or to support aging-in-place. We also continued to deliver on our commitment to sustainability by introducing Net Zero home upgrades as an option,” added LaPlante.

New products in phase two included a collection of 36-foot single-family models and a new 43-foot corner model. The addition of flex plan options resonated with homebuyers as they allowed residents to customize their plans and layouts to best suit their needs. Popular options included the addition of a ground floor bedroom and bathroom, providing an attractive option for multigenerational families.

Ideal for live-in grandparents, secondary suites were also available, providing privacy while still being a part of the home. Adding even more customization and functionality, elevator upgrades were introduced across 43- and 50-foot models, ensuring ease of mobility between the basement, ground and second floors of the home.

Phase two of Union Village also marked another first for Minto Communities GTA in its efforts for increased sustainability and energy efficiency. Purchasers were able to opt for a Net Zero upgrade package on 36-, 43- and 50-foot models, in collaboration with an expert consultant team that included Bluewater Energy, Building Knowledge and HVAC Designs. The upgrade package featured an improved building envelope through better insulation and high performance, energy-efficient windows, a zoned HVAC system allowing the temperature in each zone to be controlled independently, high efficiency mechanical equipment and rooftop solar panels.

“The introduction of Net Zero homes is a significant milestone in sustainability for Minto Communities GTA, and we’re proud to offer this option to purchasers at Union Village,” said Roya Khaleeli, Director of Sustainability and Innovation, Minto Communities GTA. “Eliminating carbon emissions and improving our carbon footprint is critical.”

“Through a Net Zero home, residents can save up to 4.5 tons of carbon every year without sacrificing comfort, the equivalent of driving nearly 30,000 km in a Ford F-150,” continued Khaleeli.
