There’s an abundance of water filtration technologies available to replace plastic bottles but this Indiegogo-funded device goes the extra mile with biodegradable filters.
TAPP 2 is a water filter that connects to your kitchen tap and delivers clean H2O using a fully biodegradable cartridge. This means after three months, the cartridge can be thrown into the compost bin and will biodegrade without adding to the global plastic waste crisis.
Launched on crowdfunding site Indiegogo this month, the Bluetooth-controlled device comes with an app that will tell users when to change their cartridges.
According to its London-based creators, TAPP 2 features a new and improved that fits most taps and takes only 30 seconds to install. TAPP 2’s filtration system uses a 100 percent coconut-based carbon block which filters over 80 contaminants, including chlorine, pesticides, lead and calcium. But TAPP 2 doesn’t remove everything from tap water. Healthy minerals found in tap water, such as magnesium and iron, will not be filtered out when using the device.

Designed to be an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bottles, TAPP 2 contains biodegradable filters that can be tossed in the compost without leaving any plastic behind. For an average household, each cartridge lasts for roughly 900 liters.
The MyTAPP app and website keeps track of your filter usage via Bluetooth and will notify users when the cartridge needs to be replaced. The app also puts into perspective the amount of money users are saving with the device, along with the amount of plastic bottles avoided and reduced CO2 footprint.
So far, TAPP 2 has raised 43 percent of its fundraising goal. It retails at $41 USD and is expected to ship in February 2018.
