The intersection of Strachan Avenue and East Liberty Street is in the midst of a transformation with large development projects currently underway at each corner.
Situated in the northwest quadrant is ZEN King West, a 31-storey condominium set to be completed by 2021. The CentreCourt development boasts modern architecture by Page + Steele IBI Group Architects and contemporary interiors by Figure3.
The project broke ground in 2018 and was followed by the excavation of the vacant plot of land between Western Battery Road and Strachan Avenue. Today, construction on the project continues to progress towards its 2021 occupancy date. In recent months, the building has topped off and the tower crane has been removed. The structure is also fully enclosed with much of the glazing, recessed balconies and cladding now installed.
At the top of the building, crews are putting the finishing touches on the glass-encased mechanical penthouse, while lower down on its podium, dark spandrel panels and black aluminum cladding continue to be installed. When completed, the canopies on both the ground level and the level above the podium rooftop will feature a warm-coloured finish that breaks up the tower’s mass, while adding visual interest to the design.
The podium rooftop is a major component of ZEN King West’s amenity program. In addition to a fitness centre, yoga room, and barbecue and dining area, the outdoor space features a 200-metre sky track running course that circles the perimeter of the rooftop. Residents will also have access to the 3,000-square-foot ZEN Spa, complete with hot and cold plunge pools, a wading pool, chromatherapy showers and steam room.
