For this family of four, living in the Forest Hill neighborhood of Toronto ticked all of the boxes — it was close to downtown, reputable schools and outstanding amenities. Packing up and moving to a more spacious abode, however, would have meant inevitable renovations to achieve the level of customization they were looking for, plus moving expenses. Instead, they opted to stay put and remodel their century-old home right down to the foundation.
The end result is a bigger, brighter and more functional home, with added depth and width to the floorplan. The space has been completely customized to fit their needs — from an open glass staircase to an abundance of built-ins, the home marries family-oriented practicality with unequivocal style.
Andrew Black, partner at Alair Homes, walks us through the physical transformation of this property from a simple semi-detached to a stunning forever home.
