You’ve spent weeks scouring online retailers for the perfect area rug, reading countless customer reviews, waiting for the price to be marked down… only to discover that the Beni Ourain you’ve just ordered won’t ship for 13 weeks. Brutal, right?
Amazon is seeking to mitigate this problem with the launch of two new furniture lines that promise free, expedited shipping. Rivet is a mid-century modern-inspired brand geared towards Millennials living in small spaces. Featuring scaled-back sofas, transforming coffee tables, sculptural light fixtures and colorful rugs, Rivet offers reasonable prices and free returns for 30 days. All products come with a one-year warranty, and most ship within three to five days.

The Stone & Beam line is aimed at the farmhouse style-obsessed crowd. Its prices are a bit steeper, but the fabrics are more durable and stain-resistant. Stone & Beam touts leather Chesterfield sofas, slipcover sectionals, refined wingback chairs, neutral-hued area rugs and wall art scrawled with phrases like, “Aloha” or “Inhale.” All products include a three-year warranty, and delivery schedules are similar to that of Rivet.

Amazon’s announcement is being regarded as a way to the corner the online furniture market, which has been ruled by companies such as Wayfair, Joybird, All Modern and Blu Dot. Even big-box retailers such as IKEA and Target are seeking ways to reduce delivery times and fees. Target now offers rush delivery and free returns, while IKEA is increasing its number of pick-up and order points.
At the moment, Amazon’s new furniture lines only ship within the US, but if you’re really keen on that down-filled performance sofa, you could always have it shipped to a parcel receiving company south of the border. Happy (online) shopping!
