City landscapes are always evolving with the addition of new towers and structures every year. Once in a while, a new development proposal will come along, offering to add architectural innovation to the urban community.
Here are a few new construction condo towers that are anticipated to alter skylines across Greater Vancouver.
1. Fifteen Fifteen
Developer: Bosa Properties and Kingswood Capital Corporation
Architects: Büro Ole Scheeren and Francl Architecture
Status: Preconstruction, registration
Size: 195 units, 42 storeys
Proposed for Alberni Street, Fifteen Fifteen will top out at 42 storeys in early 2023. A collaboration between Francl Architecture and international design firm Büro Ole Scheeren, this 195-unit, vertical-meets-horizontal tower features prominent glass-enclosed cantilevers. A double-height residents’ lounge, outfitted with a fireplace and private dining room, offers views of the harbour, mountains and Stanley Park.
This skyline-altering high-rise is located between the Coal Harbour and West End neighbourhoods. Within walking distance, future residents will have access to restaurants, bars and grocery stores, in addition to Vancouver’s largest urban greenspace.
2. The Butterfly

Status: Construction, selling
Size: 331 units, 57 storeys
Currently under construction on Nelson Street, The Butterfly will reach completion at 57 storeys in early 2022. The 331-suite tower seeks to connect with Vancouver’s natural surroundings through the use of light and openness. On every third floor is an interior garden with a tree, which is accompanied by curved glass and open-air breezeways for ample light.
Located between Davie Village and the downtown core, a variety of restaurants, retailers and bars are just steps from the front door of this future tower. If you’re looking for an outdoor spot to enjoy some fresh air, The Butterfly is across the street from Nelson Park and a 13-minute walk to Sunset Beach Park off English Bay.
3. Akimbo

Size: 350 units, 40 storeys
Scaling up this 40-storey tower in Burnaby’s Brentwood neighbourhood, a series of angled, offset balconies and fins help to create texture on the exterior.
When construction wraps up in 2023, the residences at Akimbo will showcase sleek, contemporary design by Area3 Design. Nine-foot ceilings are paired with floor-to-ceiling windows, laminate flooring and the owner’s choice of two colour palettes. In the kitchen, soft-close, European-style cabinets and quartz countertops blend together with recessed lighting and stainless steel appliances. Textured accent wall tiles and a soaker tub in the main bathroom offer a serene getaway to unwind in.
4. Terrace House

Architect: Shigeru Ban Architects

Size: 20 units, 19 storeys
Positioned just steps from the Coal Harbour waterfront, Terrace House will be the tallest hybrid timber structure in the world when complete. Created by the Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Shigeru Ban, this triangular structure will be home to 20 exclusive residences, built from locally-made timber and glass, and accompanied by lush, open terraces.
In the neighbourhood, grocery stores, bars and cafes are just a few minutes away on foot. Update your wardrobe at the nearby CF Pacific Centre, or enjoy a night out at one of the many seafood or steakhouse restaurants.
5. Barclay x Thurlow

Size: 643 units, 46 storeys
Designed by the same architect behind Fifteen Fifteen, Barclay x Thurlow is a two-tower community in Vancouver’s downtown core. Reaching past 40 storeys, these vertical buildings mimic stacked cubes in the urban skyline. At the base of the condos, a multi-story bridge will join the two structures, along with internal courtyards, gardens and public amenities.
Situated off of Thurlow and Barclay Streets, this condo tower duo is close to shopping, grocery and entertainment options. Explore the West End Farmers’ Market at Nelson Park, or dine in at one of the many local restaurants, catering a variety of cuisines, from Japanese to Italian.
