Two single-family homes and a commercial space occupied by a cash register supplier could be replaced by a six-story apartment building at 511 Hoover Street.
Situated on the border of Silver Lake, close to trendy coffee shops, curated boutiques and must-try restaurants, the development would feature 40 units, 34 of which would be designed for co-living.
Category Company, formerly known as Proper Development, is behind the proposed project. Their existing co-living complexes include Common Melrose, a collection of fully-furnished apartments with private bedrooms, included utilities, and professional cleaning and laundry services.
The shared three-, four- and five-bedroom apartments at 511 Hoover Street would boast open-concept kitchen, living and dining areas, enclosed studies, in-suite laundry and private balconies (as per plan). There would also be one two-bedroom and five one-bedroom apartments, equipped with features like walk-in closets and ensuite bathrooms (as per plan).
An underground garage would house 50 vehicle parking spaces and long-term bicycle storage. A residential lobby with mailboxes and package lockers could be accessed via the street or a landscaped central courtyard. Adjacent to the lobby would be a rec room that opens onto the verdant outdoor space, equipped with bar seating, bistro tables, a sofa and built-in benches. Additional amenity space would be found on the sixth-floor roof deck, featuring a fire pit, lounge seating, barbecues, formal and casual dining areas, and a ping pong table.
Envisioned by Los Angeles-based architecture and interior design firm Bittoni Architects, the building would be comprised of three linked structures, showcasing various window styles, Juliet balconies with cascading greenery, and stepped-back terraces. The exterior would be clad in white stucco with black-trimmed windows and metal balcony guardrails. Accents of concrete and wood-look siding would further enliven the contemporary façade.
Future residents of 511 Hoover Street would live within walking distance of Los Angeles City College, West Coast University, and the Vermont/Beverly Metro station. The onramp to the Hollywood Freeway is just around the corner, and hip neighborhoods like Silver Lake, Echo Park and Los Feliz are mere minutes away.
