Empire Phoenix is a two-tower, Graziani + Corazza Architects-designed residence currently under construction at 251 Manitoba Street in South Etobicoke. The 499-unit development by Empire Communities is nestled within Etobicoke’s Mystic Pointe area near Humber Bay.
Construction began in spring 2019 when the developer officially broke ground and the excavation and shoring phase commenced in April. The following months saw crews work their way down towards the P3 level of the underground garage. By March 2020, excavation and below-grade waterproofing was complete and two cranes were installed as the building began to rise towards grade level.
The formwork crews continued moving upward through the podium and tower levels for most of the summer months. Meanwhile, window installation began on lower floors, starting the process of closing in the building envelope.
Today, the towers at Phoenix stand 27 and 11 storeys high. Workers are pouring the top few floors of the taller building, which will eventually reach 29 storeys. The shorter west building has already topped off with formwork now underway on the rooftop elements. Window placement is at the 11th and ninth floor, respectively, and framing is visible on some balconies in preparation for railings. Inside, mechanical and electrical infrastructure rough-ins are ongoing, along with framing and drywall installation throughout.
When complete, Phoenix will house a variety of units from studios to two-storey garden suites. Residents will have access to a wide range of amenities, starting with a grand lobby complete with a 24-hour concierge, lounge seating and a parcel storage room.
A fully-equipped fitness centre will feature cardio equipment, weights, a yoga studio, spin area, artificial fitness turf and refuelling zone. The development also boasts an outdoor pool and spa with a sauna, oversized rain shower, relaxation room and change rooms.
Local amenities include the many shops, cafes and services at Westlake Village, convenient access to the Gardiner Expressway and Mimico GO station as well as Humber Bay Park and the Martin Goodman Trail.
