When it comes to creating condo lofts, Toronto has seen everything from former toy factories to neo-gothic churches and school houses be transformed into new residences.
Pre-construction condo buyers with a million-dollar budget who want to enjoy a slice of history can scoop up one of the few remaining loft floorplans at a former bread factory in the city’s Leslieville neighbourhood.
Wonder Condos is a collection of 289 townhome, loft and condo residences created by Graywood Developments Ltd and Alterra. Now under construction near Eastern and Carlaw avenues, this eight-storey building combines new modern residences with the retained heritage portion of the historic bread-making facility.
Heritage Hard Loft 3L-E is the largest loft floorplan currently available in the development, as reported by BuzzBuzzHome. Spanning 1,687 square feet across two floors, this floorplan provides three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a den. From the entry hallway, the suite opens up into a kitchen and living room area with enough space for a six-seater dining room table. The mezzanine level, accessible from a staircase on the left, looks out onto the floor below and will make for a cozy lounge spot or a home office.

All Heritage Loft floorplans like 3L-E at Wonder Condos are fitted with the typical hard loft trimmings. Exposed ducts and I-beams adorn the white 14- to 17-foot ceilings, paired with interior brick veneer cladding, floor-to-ceiling windows, and the buyer’s choice of engineered hardwood or concrete-like tile flooring.
According to the most recent pricing data on BuzzBuzzHome, the Heritage Hard Loft 3L-E floorplan was last listed from $2,200,900. With Wonder Condo’s presentation centre now closed, only a limited number of suites are available, according to a notice on the project’s website.

Wonder Condos is named after the site’s previous use as a bakery and producer of Wonder Bread. In the 19th century, baker Lewis Brown bought the land from a butcher and cattle dealer. By the late 1880s, Brown began his bakery business out of his home on the lot, with the company later evolving into Brown’s Bread Limited and merging with General Bakeries Limited between the 1960s and 1970s. George Weston Company took over the factory in the 1980s, where it produced Wonder Bread until the factory’s closure in 2014.
The latest information from BuzzBuzzHome shows that pricing for units at Wonder Condos begins from $903,900.
