Is your TikTok “For You” page an endless stream of NYC realtors showcasing studio apartments in SoHo, thousands of miles away from your home in the Bay Area? A new mobile app called Playhouse is hoping to bridge the disconnect between real estate listing videos and local buyers.
Described as “fun and addictive like TikTok, practical and actionable like Zillow,” Playhouse allows users to scroll through short videos of homes on the market in their area. Some videos are set to upbeat pop songs, while others feature voice over audio highlighting the home’s selling features. Similar to TikTok, users can like, share or comment on each video.
The basic listing details are prominently displayed, including the home’s price, address, square footage, and the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Tapping on the ‘listing details’ button reveals additional information like the property description, a map of its location, price insights and more. There’s also an option to call or email the listing agent directly, making it easy to set up an in-person showing.
At the top of the screen is a filters button that enables the user to set their price range and preferred number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Currently, all of the homes on Playhouse are clustered in Silicon Valley, primarily in wealthy cities like Palo Alto, Los Altos Hills and Menlo Park. Most properties on the app are priced well over $1 million, with some asking as much as $30 million.
Playhouse officially launched today via Product Hunt and is available on the App Store for iPhone users in the US. The company plans to expand to other markets and will be available to Android users in the near future, according to comments made by Alex Perelman, Co-Founder and CEO at Playhouse.
