Maybe you’ve heard of it as that restaurant the Kardashians love, or the luxury hospitality franchise founded by actor Robert De Niro. Toronto will soon be getting its own Nobu location — the first in Canada — inside of a new high-rise condo project near Peter and King streets, which released a glimpse of its exterior façade this week along with some construction updates.
In a press release, Toronto developer Madison Group shared new details for Nobu Residences Toronto, the location of Canada’s first Nobu Hotel and Nobu Restaurant.
Nobu Hospitality is a global luxury hotel and restaurant management company that was created by Japanese celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa, De Niro and American producer Meir Teper. The brand has several locations over five continents including Las Vegas, Manila and Miami Beach.
Teeple Architects and interior design firm Studio Munge have teamed up to design Nobu Residences Toronto, which will “celebrate thoughtful living and superior craftsmanship.” A new rendering was unveiled of the tower’s historic façade and Mercer Street entrance, which incorporates and maintains elements of the historic Pilkington Glass Factory.
When complete, it will consist of 650 condominium suites within two 45-storey towers. At the base, the development’s podium will house 6,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, plus indoor and outdoor amenities facilities.
Construction on the towers is well underway, with the first scheduled occupancy slated for 2022, according to Josh Zagdanski, vice-president of high-rise at Madison Group. Glass panels are being installed on the eighth level for both the east and west towers, along with concrete forming on the 13th floor of the east tower and 16th level of the west tower. The heritage façade retention has been removed, and restoration work and interior finishes are anticipated to begin this spring.
New commercial and retail leasing opportunities are now available for the ground and second levels.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be closing in on this transformative project that will anchor a re-envisioned Mercer Street,” said Zagdanski in the press release.
Madison Group is also known for its work on The Capitol Residences near Yonge and Eglinton, and Alias Condos in the Saint Lawrence neighbourhood.
